About Us
Peace Action is the largest membership peace
group in the United States.
Upper Hudson Peace Action is the affiliate
for the New York Capital District region, including Albany, Schenectady,
Troy, Saratoga and nearby communities. For twenty-five years we have
been active locally opposing
war and the continuing threat from nuclear weapons.
We oppose the bloated military budget, the
invasion of occupation of Iraq, the Bush Doctrine of preventive/preemptive
war, the use of toxic Depleted Uranium (DU), weapons in space, and
aggressive military recruiting of students and youth.
We work on Peace
Action's Campaign for a New Foreign and Military Policy toward the
goals of eliminating weapons of mass destruction and real security through
international cooperation, economic justice and human rights.
National Peace Action, was formed by the merger of the Committee for a
SANE Nuclear Policy, which paved the way for the Partial Nuclear Test Ban of
1963 and organized the first mass protests against the Vietnam War, and the
Nuclear Freeze campaign, which helped reverse the dangerous military buildup
of the 1980's.
We are also one of 12 chapters of New York State Peace
Action across the state.
